High Surf Warning in San Diego?

4/13/2022 (Permalink)

A heavy rainstorm rolls across stormy seas in the Pacific Ocean. We respond to storm damage emergencies 24-hours a day in San Diego County.

Our San Diego City, South West team was busy responding to storm damage emergencies in March this year! Along with the severe storm, high surf warnings and advisories were issued for the coastal regions of San Diego County. High surf advisories and high surf warnings were issued, and many parts of the county experienced flooding and water intrusion issues. Here are the definitions for high surf warnings and high surf advisories from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA):

High Surf Advisory

A high surf advisory is issued when breaking wave action poses a threat to life and property within the surf zone. High surf criteria vary by region, and high surf advisories are issued using the Coastal and Lakeshore Message (CFW) product.

High Surf Warning

A high surf warning is issued when breaking wave action results in an especially heightened threat to life and property within the surf zone. High surf criteria vary by region, and high surf warnings are issued using the Coastal and Lakeshore Hazard Message (CFW) product.
